Guidelines for Drafting and Editing Court Rules
In the 1990s, Bryan A. Garner was the style consultant to the Standing Committee on Rules of Practice and Procedure—part of the U.S. Judicial Conference. His responsibilities included restyling all amendments to federal rules, including wholesale revisions of the appellate rules and the criminal rules. This remarkably useful pamphlet on legal drafting was a by-product of that effort. It details the stylistic choices made by effective drafters of the rules and regulations.
