The Redbook: A Manual on Legal Style, 1st edition, 2002
The working title of this book was “A Restatement of the Principles of Legal Writing,” and the text is designed on the model of explicit rules followed by commentary. Every rule of punctuation, every important grammatical rule, and every important principle of legal writing can be found here. If the Bluebook deals with citational norms, The Redbook deals with everything in between: the legal prose itself. The final chapters contain examples of superbly written legal documents.
“Invaluable.” — Judge Richard A. Posner
